So today's my birthday. Happy birthday to me.
A couple of days ago my dad walked into my room asking me what I wanted for my birthday. The answer was the same: 'I don't know'. I love presents, don't get me wrong, but I love being surprised and it makes me mad when people ask. So don't.
I know life can be hard. I know we are not perfect. I know we make mistakes. I know we hurt and get hurt. But we're free to live, we make our own choices, we try to be better, we try to make the world a better place, we try to best use our freedom. And we pray we do it right.
Life is about making mistakes and rectifying them, about laughing and crying, about doing and undoing. Life is so much more than everything we know, and we live each day to know a little bit more of it, to fall a little bit more in love with it.
I am alive. I've been so for a while now, but it also took me a while to realize that. Sometimes we need a moment to look around, realize who we are and be thankful for it. Then remember how it all started.
My parents gave me the best gift they could ever give me, it required everything they were and everything they are. They made a free choice, they knew their freedom compromised mine. And here I am.
Allowing someone to live, to give that someone the luxury, the freedom, is more than a gift, it's justice. Because every life deserves to be lived, it's worth it.
