With the 2014 midterm elections quickly approaching, a great responsibility is called upon the Pro-Life community due to the great impact that could be had on the nationwide pro-life movement.
· The best candidate is one who has strongly stood by their belief and is not easily swayed by the manipulation of the media or pressure of other opposing candidates.
· A candidate who has publicly practiced his or her beliefs years before reaching a significant influential power is the best. This would include people who have a past in volunteering or positively influencing their community while serving the city council, school board or through their power as mayor.
· Candidates who have a history of manipulating words and purposely skirting topics and concerns during interviews should be carefully selected as this may lead to deception further down the road while serving in office.
· A candidate who identifies himself as a certain political position but later changes sides would not be the best selection, especially during such an important election. One example would be Florida’s former Republican Governor, Charlie Crist. Not only did he change political parties while attempting to run as an independent senate candidate; he is also currently a democratic candidate running for governor in the 2014 midterm elections. During his political career, Crist has claimed to be Pro-Life however does not want to impede on “woman’s rights”, as well as later calling himself Pro-Choice and scrubbing his campaign free of any pro-life affiliations. Candidates like Crist are specifically ones who may not have the best influence on the pro-life movement and should be handled with caution.
While the 2014 elections may not appear to be as important as the Presidential elections, what one may fail to realize is that the Senate and House representatives have powerful voices in congress and the Supreme Court. It is their opinions and beliefs that help fuel constitutional amendments and healthcare plans that can protect the unborn. Governors have the power within their jurisdictions to change state laws in favor of the unborn or against them. It is therefore extremely important to be aware of who is running for election and where their opinions and beliefs lie. Good luck and vote Pro-Life!!
