Is abortion under the case of rape okay?
Being very openly pro-life at my school, I hear this statement a lot- “You know, Liz, I actually totally agree with you. Except I could understand it in the case of rape.”
“The victim was already traumatized enough, she shouldn’t have to go through childbirth.”
Rape is an unacceptable crime. It takes away rights; objectifying and making its victims feel completely helpless. We cannot point out the wrongs of rape by taking away the rights of another person in the process. Abortion after rape would worsen the traumatization for the mother- abortion often causes PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder), severe guilt and depression. Proving that she can take a wrong and turn it into something beautiful, like the relationship between a mother and her child, would be some of the best therapy of all.
Do not look up stories about children conceived through rape and brought into loving homes unless you want streaking mascara and puffy eyes. The proof that people can come to life through disturbing circumstances makes their right to life undeniable. Take a look at these famous people conceived through rape.
The way they were conceived did not impact their potential; they went on to do great things and to impact the world regardless of being conceived through rape.
“The child will be a reminder of what happened to the victim.”
This story proves that the child is not his father’s crime, and he does not deserve the death penalty for it.
Robyn‘s baby filled her with hope, not shame. He proved that something beautiful could come from something as ugly as rape. Having a baby conceived through rape does not condone the rapist’s actions, but instead proves the rapist wrong.
If the mother is unable to support her baby when it comes into this world, adoption is always another loving option.
People are people no matter how they come into this world.
Choose life, no matter what the circumstances.
