Baby Jake and I can’t believe it’s already October! It seems like just yesterday, Jacob was the size of a sesame seed. In case you missed out on last month’s blog, Jake is as big as a cauliflower at week 27!
At week 28, Jacob is beginning to grow layers of fat. He has eyelashes, and he recognizes and will look toward bright lights from outside of the womb. He is the size of a kabocha squash.
Week 30 means Jake can distinguish between light and dark. At the time of birth, he will only be able to see things a few inches from his face. He is about the size of a large cabbage.
At week 32, Jacob has a full head of brown hair! His fingernails and toenails are grown in, and his taste buds are fully developed. Jake is the size of Napa cabbage.
At week 34, Jake’s lungs are well developed. He will continue to “fatten up,” in order to keep him warm outside of the womb. At this point, Jake is developed enough to survive outside of the womb without the threat of serious problems. Jake is the size of a cantaloupe.
Jake is shedding the thin layer of hair around his body at week 36. Jacob is now the size of a canary melon.
Jacob can firmly grip his hands at week 38. He is continually gaining fat, and he is about the length of a stalk of rhubarb.
It’s time! Jake is 40 weeks old, and is ready for birth. The bones of his skull are still separated, to make birth easier, and will not fuse for another year. His hair and nails continue to grow, and he is the size of a watermelon at birth.
Jake and I would like to thank everyone who accompanied us on our journey through such miraculous development. We would like to especially thank March for Life for their continued support, not only of our Fetal Development blogs, but also of ProLife Youth. We look forward to a future where all life is respected, from conception to natural death.
