To begin, half a year ago our pro-life club was asleep. In February 2014 I asked our president Nina Evans if I could join the club and she said, “Sure!” I asked when our next meeting was and she said, “Um, we don’t have one.”
That was discouraging. But we had a friend in the group Students for Life of America who we knew could help us. Her name is Rebekah Chiew and she’s an awesome lady. She was happy to help us, and offered us some advice, “Don’t worry about membership too much. Choose three activities that you are going to do this semester and then people will join when they see things happening.” So we chose our activities: attend a pro-life conference in Seattle, pray outside a Planned Parenthood clinic, and host a diaper drive.
One of the great things about our three activities was that they were all flexible: if more people joined us for the conference that’d be great! But Nina and I could also go alone. More people could also join us to pray in front of the clinic or raise funds for the diaper drive, but again Nina and I could go alone. No matter what happened, we could make something happen, and we would make something happen. We were excited!
Our semester was wonderful. We did everything we said we’d do, plus people joined us when they saw things happening! Six people drove six hours to Seattle, and we organized two caravans to the Planned Parenthood clinic two hours away. And for our diaper drive we raised $649!!!!
