Pro-choicers are confusing. I’ve noticed that certain beliefs of pro-abort Liberals contradict each other, so I thought I’d point out some discrepancies and hypocrisies often demonstrated by abortion advocates on the Left. I should note that this article is meant to address the views of people who are both pro-choice and Liberal. I know not all Liberals are pro-choice (and vice versa), but most are. Therefore, this article addresses the thinking of those who are both and I use those terms interchangeably.
#1: More Humans = More Support
This one is the most basic and fundamental contradiction of them all, but somehow this equation has nonetheless escaped the collective pro-choice mind. The most important part of any movement is people. Candidates get elected into office because they have more voters, and business with more customers make money and grow. Put simply, pro-choicers are literally killing potential abortion supporters. I believe the appropriate term here is “self-destruction.”
Not only is abortion illogical and detrimental for the pro-choice movement, but it’s also very short-sighted. I’ve never met a pro-choicer who said, “Yep, it would've been fine for my mom to kill me for her own convenience” because, guess what, they're alive! As Ronald Reagan once said, “I’ve noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.”
There are soooooo many Liberal policies that contradict the “right to choose” philosophy of the Left–the backbone of the abortion movement–and the above cartoon illustrates this perfectly! Pro-choicers want the right to choose to have an abortion, but want to force a lot of other things. Liberals generally don't want people to choose to own guns, to go to a school of their choice, to have access to whatever healthcare or doctors they want (Obamacare), drink large sodas (New York City), eat trans fats (Obama administration), or to practice their religion (i.e. not paying for employee’s contraception/abortions, refusing to participate in gay weddings, pray in public, etc.).
Their slogan should be, “Liberalism: ideas so good, they’re mandatory.”
I would love to somehow do a study where we take a pro-choice mother and her child (doesn’t really matter what age) and candidly sit them down with the kid’s photo album. Most of these memory-books have an ultrasound picture of the child in-utero. If that pro-choice mother looked at that picture and, in front of her own child, said, “Oh look, there you are as a clump of cells! I mean, you weren't really 'you' then. Just a meaningless blob of tissue” you’d worry about the mental health of the both of them. I’d bet that at least 9 times out of 10, even pro-choice mothers would say, “There you are! Look how little you were!” or something that recognizes humanity. At least pro-choicers should be consistent.
Some pro-choicers claim that since a baby has to depend on the mother’s body for nutrition, oxygen, etc., it isn't a person. By that same logic, a person who is in space (above) or dependent on a feeding tube, IV hydration, or ventilator, even temporarily, isn't a person either. Good luck convincing people of that one.
This one is probably my favorite just because it’s so outrageously backwards. New York City public schools handed out the morning-after pill like candy to girls as young as 14 at more than 50 public schools, completely bypassing parental consent (although there is an opt-out form for parents to sign, that still shouldn't be good enough, considering you need your parent's signature to go on a field trip). NYC decided to start the program to combat teen pregnancy, despite the fact that the pill still doesn't protect against STIs and could very well encourage teens to have sex since girls can go to school the next morning and forget about the consequences. Plus, in some states, girls under 18 can get abortions by themselves, no questions asked. The below graphic reinforces my point very well.
In tandem with #6, here’s the kicker:
#7 Liberals don't like vaccinations!
Seriously, the decades-old practice that prevents millions of deaths each year is considered by some Liberals to be more dangerous than the flu, tetanus, measles, mumps, whooping cough, smallpox, and the like. These diseases are apparently the new hipster trend because vaccination rates have gotten dangerously low in areas of California, Oregon, and New York. Even Samantha Bee, a Liberal correspondent for Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show, ripped apart “lifestyle” blogger Sarah Pope’s position on the issue (watch the hilarious video here).
Free abortion pills at school for minors without parental permission? Great! Lifesaving injections that no respected scientist disagrees with? Evil!
And Liberals think Conservatives are against science…
Abortion is a travesty. It's bad enough by itself, but pile on a solid helping of Liberal ignorance and hypocrisy and you get a seemingly supernatural feeling of frustration and concern. All of a sudden, moving to middle-of-nowhere Wyoming and becoming a hermit seems like a good idea. I might prefer moving to Poland or Malta instead. But despite all the face-palming these Liberals cause, the fight against abortion here in America is too important to abandon. Pro-aborts are being medically, scientifically, and morally hypocritical. Yes, trying to cure people of these logical ills is very difficult and frustrating, but take comfort in the fact that, being pro-life, you automatically out-philosophize, out-logic, and out-reason your run-of-the-mill Liberal counterpart. Just try not to let it get to your head.
