It was amazing when I eventually plucked up the courage to do it though…
Nobody was aggressive to anyone coming in or out of the clinic.
What really got me about this, though, was the support from the public. We kind of assume that “beep beep” is a sign of support, as it is generally when workers are out on strike in the UK. A long beeeeeep generally means that the driver despises what you’re doing. We didn’t get any beeeeeeps when I was there. This was on one of the major roads out of Leeds during rush hour on a Friday. Lots of cars went past. We got a lot of “beep beeps”. I wasn’t expecting that!
I have to admit, I didn’t enjoy it. I felt vulnerable. I felt for the women being driven in and out of the clinic. I pray for them every day. However, I will go back.
I said, “I’ll let you know how that goes.” That’s how it went.
