The right to life is the first among human rights. All of human life is sacred and every one of us on this earth, no matter what stage of life we are at, has great value. The right to life needs to be protected by the rest of society, because that is what a just society does.
We need to protect the smallest of lives not because they may have something great to offer to the world someday, or may cure cancer, or be the future president of this country. Because each child is a gift to the world, irreplaceable, and a reflection of Gods love is the reason why ALL of human life needs to be protected. Abortion is not wrong because it kills a child that may someday change the world, but because it kills a child that in itself will be the greatest gift the world will ever be given.
I have heard some people say " the fetus is too dependent on the mother when it is in the womb, so because of the degree of dependency, abortion is okay". This is not a valid reason to argue for abortion. Dependency on the parents does not dissolve the sanctity of ANY human life. After birth, until basically adulthood, children are dependent on their parents for shelter, food and clothing. If these were not provided, we would call those -parents irresponsible.
So, what changes between the womb and the 8 and a half inches down the birth canal for a baby into the world? Is a child that is dependent on their parents any less of a child? As a society, I believe we need to do a better job of protecting all of human life, especially the smallest of human life,, the unborn. After all, is an 11 year old more of a person than a newborn? Sure, they may be physically more grown, but in no way shape or form does that make them have more value. I believe God can use the smallest of lives to show his love to the world, because that is certainly one of the ways he shows it to me. Take after Psalm 139:13-14
There are very few things in this life that are worth fighting for, and the innocent are one of them. We have a duty to protect the most vulnerable.
All of human life is sacred. Fight for the life, even if the tide may seem like it is against you.
